Getting Started with Meditation
Meditation does not have to be complicated. Here are seven simple techniques to help any beginner get started.
1. Breath Meditation
Sit comfortably and focus on your breath. Count to four as you inhale, hold for four seconds, and exhale for four seconds. This immediately calms the mind.
2. Body Scan Meditation
Start at your feet and slowly move your attention upward. Observe each body region without judgment.
3. Mantra Meditation
Choose a simple mantra like "Om" or "I am peace" and repeat it quietly. The mantra gives the mind an anchor point.
4. Walking Meditation
Walk slowly and mindfully. Feel each step consciously. This technique is especially good for people who cannot sit still.
5. Visualization Meditation
Imagine a peaceful place - a beach, a forest, or a mountain peak. Immerse yourself in this image with all your senses.
6. Loving-Kindness Meditation
Send loving thoughts first to yourself, then to close ones, and finally to all living beings.
7. Sound Meditation
Listen to singing bowls, nature sounds, or gentle music and let the sounds flow through you.
