Allopsychia refers to a displacement of the psychic center in which the self is no longer experienced as the source of perception. Thoughts, emotions, or impulses appear alien, as if arising from elsewhere, as though another order were speaking through the psyche.
Symbolically, allopsychia represents a state of porous boundaries between self and world. It may be understood as the shadow aspect of ecstasy: not an expansion of the self, but its override. In esoteric interpretation, it marks a dangerous yet revelatory threshold where individuation is suspended and archetypal or collective forces take possession.
Allopsychia serves as a warning and a key: it calls for discernment between inspiration and invasion, reminding us that openness without grounding leads to loss of inner center—and that the Other becomes wisdom only when consciously integrated.
