Meaning & Origin:
Emanation (from the Latin emanare, “to flow out from”) describes the process by which all existence unfolds from a single divine source. The concept is central to Neoplatonism, Kabbalah, Gnosticism, and many mystical philosophies, in which the cosmos is seen as a cascade of light descending from the One.
Esoteric Significance:
Emanation expresses the outpouring of divine essence — the eternal movement through which unity manifests as multiplicity, without ever ceasing to be One.
Each level of emanation represents a gradation of consciousness, from pure spirit into denser forms of matter.
In Kabbalistic teaching, the ten Sephiroth of the Tree of Life are emanations of the Infinite (Ein Sof), each revealing a facet of divine intelligence.
Mystically, the soul itself is an emanation — a spark of the eternal flame that journeys through creation to remember its source.
Legacy & Practice:
Emanation provides the metaphysical key to understanding creation not as a separation from God, but as a living radiation of the Divine. Contemplation of this principle invites the seeker to recognize the same divine flow within all things — to return inward along the stream of light toward the Source.
