Nirvana

Nirvana

Meaning (Etymology):
Nirvāṇa literally means “extinguishing”—like a flame that does not get destroyed, but comes to rest because there is no more fuel.

Symbolic Meaning:
Nirvāṇa is not a place and not a state of possession, but the end of entanglement. Life does not cease; compulsion does. What remains is effortless clarity.

Esoteric Level / Archetype:

  • The archetype of cessation without loss.

  • Beyond hope and fear, because nothing needs defending.

  • Often mistaken for nothingness—actually the absence of inner pressure.

Inner Function:
Nirvāṇa ends the inner cycle of craving, aversion, and self-maintenance. Experience continues, but without the grip of “I must.”

Paradox:
Nirvāṇa cannot be attained because it was never separate. It appears when seeking falls away.
