Paramahansa Yogananda

Paramahansa Yogananda (1893–1952) was an Indian yogi, mystic, and spiritual teacher who introduced Kriya Yoga to the West. He is known for his world-famous book "Autobiography of a Yogi," which has inspired millions of people.

1. Early Life & Spiritual Quest

Born in 1893 in Gorakhpur, India, as Mukunda Lal Ghosh.

Even as a child, he had profound spiritual experiences and visions.

In 1910, he met his guru, Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri, who initiated him into Kriya Yoga.

He became a monk and received the name Yogananda.

2. Mission: Bring Yoga to the West

In 1920, he traveled to America to popularize yoga and Eastern wisdom.

He gave lectures in the USA and founded the Self-Realization Fellowship (SRF) to spread Kriya Yoga.

He emphasized the unity of all religions and the direct experience of God through meditation.

Kriya Yoga is an advanced meditation method that uses breath control (pranayama) to calm the mind and expand consciousness.
