πͺοΈ What are elementals?
Elementals are spiritual or energetic entities consisting of the four classical elements:
π Fire
π Water
π Air
π Earth
In classical magical and hermetic traditions, they are considered nature spirits or subtle intelligences that live and work in the respective elements.
π§βοΈ Traditional classification (according to Paracelsus, for example):
Fire beings → Salamanders
→ symbolize willpower, energy, transformation
Water beings → Undines
→ represent feelings, intuition, flow
Air beings → Sylphs
→ embody thoughts, inspiration, lightness
Earth beings → Gnomes
→ represent stability, matter, physical reality
π§βοΈ What do they mean spiritually?
Sometimes they are seen as independent entities.
In other teachings (e.g., Franz Bardon, Emil Stejnar), elementals are also aspects of the human being itself, i.e., forces of consciousness or energies within us that can be perceived, purified, and mastered.
Example:
Your inner "fire elemental" would then be your willpower, your anger, your courage.
The "water elemental" – your feelings, longings, dreams.
And so on.
π§βοΈ In magic:
Magicians or hermeticists attempt to work consciously with these forces:
To recognize them
To harmonize them
To "tame" or "refine" them
Or even to communicate with external elemental beings
