Firdaria (also Firdaria, singular Firdar or Firdaria) refers to a traditional astrological system of time and life stage rule that has its origins in medieval Persian-Arabic astrology. The term is associated with the Persian firdār and describes the division of human life into larger and smaller time periods, each of which is assigned to a specific planet.
The system is used to astrologically interpret different phases of life and to determine their characteristic themes, challenges and development opportunities. The Firdaria is one of the so-called time ruler systems of traditional astrology.
The Firdaria was passed down particularly through the Arabic-Persian astrology of the Middle Ages. Important astrological authors such as Abu Maʿshar contributed to the spread of related planetary time ruler systems.
The focus is on the idea that certain planets have a special astrological meaning during certain periods of life. Seven classical planets and the two lunar nodes are taken into account.
The traditional main periods include:
|
Planet |
Duration of reign |
|---|---|
|
Sun |
10 years |
|
Venus |
8 years |
|
Mercury |
13 years |
|
Moon |
9 years |
|
Saturn |
11 years |
|
Jupiter |
12 years |
|
Mars |
7 years |
|
Moon Node |
3 years each |
The seven planetary periods add up to 70 years. With the two lunar nodal periods, a complete cycle lasts 75 years.
The order depends on whether a person was born during the day or at night. For a day birth, the traditional sequence begins with the sun, for a night birth with the moon. The main periods are additionally divided into sub-periods, to which additional planets are assigned.
Symbolically, the Firdaria stands for the principle of the cyclical unfolding of human destiny. Life is not understood as a uniform process, but as a sequence of different development phases, each of which is shaped by certain archetypal forces.
For example, the sun symbolizes self-realization, authority and identity, while Venus is associated with relationships, harmony and beauty. Saturn stands for responsibility, limitation and maturation, Jupiter for growth, knowledge and expansion.
Within this astrological world view, every phase of life appears as an expression of a certain cosmic quality.
Parapsychologically and symbolically, Firdaria can be understood as a model of the temporal order of internal development processes. The planetary periods of rule can be interpreted as symbols of different psychological and spiritual tasks.
This creates a connection between astrological interpretation of time and archetypal psychology. The planets represent different basic forces of the human personality, which can come to the fore to varying degrees over the course of life.
However, there is no scientifically proven ability of Firdaria to predict life events. Its significance lies primarily within traditional astrological interpretation practice.
In a deeper symbolic meaning, the Firdaria embodies the archetype of the cosmic rhythm of life.It describes humans as beings whose development takes place in successive cycles and whose life path is shaped by different experiences.
Each planet appears as a symbolic teacher. Some phases require activity and assertiveness, others patience, dedication, realization or letting go. The Firdaria interprets these changes as an expression of a higher-level temporal order.
It reminds us that human life consists of different phases and that each phase can have its own meaning. In the astrological symbolic language, fate becomes a sequence of developmental tasks through which the personality gradually unfolds.
