Gnosis

Meaning & Origin:
Gnosis (Greek γνῶσις = knowledge) refers to direct, inner knowledge of the Divine. Unlike external or intellectual learning, Gnosis is experienced knowledge, awakening the soul to its divine origin.

Esoteric Significance:

  • Gnosis is the awakening of the soul, remembering its celestial source.

  • It reveals the hidden mysteries: the structure of the unseen worlds, the origin of light, and the path of return.

  • In Gnostic traditions, the material world is often seen as a realm of separation or forgetfulness, and Gnosis as the key to liberation.

  • It is less a doctrine than an inner experience, received through vision, meditation, initiation, or divine grace.

Legacy & Practice:
Since antiquity, Gnosis has inspired spiritual movements, mystics, and esoteric seekers. In modern esotericism, it is understood as the inner spark that calls us back to the Source and makes union with the Divine possible.
