Meaning & Origin:
Enoch (Hebrew חֲנוֹךְ, Chanōkh = “the Initiated One”) is a figure of biblical tradition. He is described as a righteous man who “walked with God” and was taken from the Earth without tasting death (Genesis 5:24). In apocryphal and mystical writings, he appears as the recipient of divine secrets and as a mediator between heaven and earth.
Esoteric Significance:
Enoch embodies the archetype of the Initiate, one who undergoes the mystery of ascension.
In Jewish mysticism, he is identified with Metatron, the “Angel of the Presence,” guardian of the heavenly archives and scribe of the divine book.
The Books of Enoch describe journeys through celestial realms, revelations of angels, cosmic orders, and visions of the final judgment.
Symbolically, Enoch represents the human being who transcends earthly limitation and is elevated into divine dimensions.
Legacy & Practice:
Enoch inspires Kabbalists, mystics, and esoteric seekers as a guide to initiation, heavenly ascent, and the awakening of higher consciousness. His figure reflects the timeless yearning not only to glimpse the divine but to enter it consciously.
