Thigle

Thigle

Thigle (Tibetan ཐིག་ལེ་, often translated as “essence drop,” “sphere,” or “bindu”) refers in tantric and Dzogchen teachings to the most subtle condensation of awareness, energy, and essence. Thigle is not a physical entity but a non-local point of pure presence, where emptiness and appearance converge.

Symbolically, Thigle represents the moment of condensation within infinity—the single point in which space gathers without becoming limited. It is described as a luminous sphere or point of light, the source from which perception, identity, and world arise, and into which they dissolve.

In subtle body teachings, thigles appear as white and red essences, associated with consciousness and vital force. In Dzogchen, however, this physiology is transcended: Thigle becomes the direct display of the nature of mind itself, appearing as spheres of light and rainbow hues, especially within the practice of Thögal.

Esoterically, Thigle marks the threshold between the formless and form, without itself becoming form. It is both the seed of manifestation and the point where all manifestations collapse into luminous clarity. In this sense, Thigle is the essence of essence, the radiant heart of awareness.

Symbolic Layers:

  • Ontological: unity point of emptiness and appearance

  • Psychic: origin of perception and identity

  • Mystical: self-luminosity of awareness
